The Dallas Cowboys have agreed to terms to make former Green Bay Packers coach Mike McCarthy their next head coach, according to reports from Jay Glazer and Ian Rapoport. The coaching search moved quickly in the past 12 hours after the Cowboys formally announced Jason Garrett would not return as head coach.

Cowboys rumors had suggested that Jerry Jones was going to waste no time hiring his replacement. Lincoln Riley, McCarthy and Urban Meyer have been a few of the names floated as potential replacements. However, not even one day in and it’s being reported that the team is done looking at possible coaching options. Tom Downey, host of the Cowboys Report, has the latest on the Cowboys latest news and rumors surrounding the Cowboys coaching search.

The Cowboys brought in both Marvin Lewis and McCarthy for interviews, but it seems like that’s going to be it. Could Lewis become McCarthy’s defensive coordinator?

Rumor has it that McCarthy’s interview went extremely well and he’s already inquiring about potential staff, specifically running backs coach candidates. Does Mike McCarthy think that it’s a done deal with the Cowboys? It’s certainly possible.

In other Cowboys coaching news, it appears that several Cowboys assistants are set to remain in Dallas. While it’s believed that Kellen Moore secured a job for next season, Marc Colombo and Sanjay Lal could also be staying. One report suggested that the next Cowboys head coach will have their OC, OL and WR coach already in place. If that’s the case, could the Cowboys be targeting a defensive-minded head coach?

Definately an upgrade from Jason Garrett!

Well, it kind of makes sense. They want a guy who has Championship experience because this team is a "ready for a Championship now" team. Any college level coach will have an almost definite learning curve.

Pros:
* Won a SB
* Multi Championship games
* Loads of Playoff Appearances
* Knows Aaron Rodgers, could be useful in Playoffs
* Supposed beliefs in analytics
*GB struggles might have been because of Rodgers and not him
* Created a fairly successful run game with Ty Montgomery
* Still an upgrade over Garrett
* Can bring our offense to life

Cons:
* GB struggles might have been him.
* Rumors about him towards the end of his career in GB are worrying
* Dak and Rodgers are two very different players
* Teams know how to beat him, and he may need an elite QB to bail him out at times

Only time will tell how good of a hire this was. Hope this works out. It will be good to watch a game without all the clapping.

Give this a B for now.

Lets get a guy who didnt deliver his last season as a HC. Nope. Never wanted him. Not like he went 6-10 or 7-9. He had 4 wins. Wtf is this

Grade: D

If Brady came to the Cowboys next season the media like Smith, Shannon & others would talk so much smack. Brady could have the biggest season of all his seasons. Plus the new head coach is already getting smack about how he ain't going to do shit. If Brady came for next season this is what the offence has to offer Brady. Dak, Cooper, Gallup, Cobb, Jarwin, Zeke, Pollard, . If Dak would not take it in a bad way. Dak could have 1 season to play with the best QB in the history of the NFL BRILLIANT. Say the cowboys just go to the super bowl next season. The media shit talking that we would happen threw out the season would be ridicules. The super bowl would be the # 1 super bowl of everything in the history of all super bowls it would be crazy. Then Brady would retire and be the new QB coach of the cowboys that would keep Brady playing football with out playing games. The next 3 years could be NFL shattering if the Cowboys & Brady did it right.

This is the best coach available. Although Aaron Rodgers helped Mike at Green Bay I’m sure that Aaron Rodgers was hard to deal with. Definitely a good upgrade for this team.

Cowboys are mediocre at best when will Jerry Jones realize that? Defense has been a_s long before Garrett was there and Jerry keeps talking Superbowl but without the talent to get us there. When we was winning Superbowls we had both a potent offense and stellar defense right now we have neither.

MM and Nolan sound great. But imagine if he could get Marv Lewis to take the DC job...

Well it's a step forward, a coach from college would've been a step backwards

I think you can’t grade the pick too much yet . He is a floor oB- and a ceiling of a A. McCarthy had problems with Rodgers after Rodgers was a veteran . He has a young team that he can develop now
