Liquitex Varnish For Acrylic Painting ► GLOSS vs MATTE Test

Here is my Liquitex Varnish For Acrylic Painting test. I tested 8 Liquitex acrylic varnishes and mediums: Airbrush Medium, Satin Varnish, Matte Varnish, Ultra Gloss Varnish, Matte Gel, Gloss Gel, Ultra Matte Gel and Matte Medium. I wanted to compare the different finishes and see if they altered the colors in any way.

Well explained.

I don' paint much but I would prefer the high gloss vanish to give the painting a shining effect (and an illusion of wet fresh paint)... However if it was a realism painting, I would prefer the least thick or your preferred matte (because a slight alteration in the tone of a color could potentially ruin the painting).

The differences between the matte vanishes and gel are interesting. It seems like it is either color distorting or not much of difference from a satin varnish. Am I seeing this right? Are you happy with any of the mattes? Interesting comparison. Thanks, as always, for sharing. ;)

Do I have to varnish? I know that it will protect my paintings but I work with matte black and gold leaf on canvas and the contrast between shine and Matt is kind of the whole point to the paintings.

my painting is too glossy and has a huge glare after varnishing it with the gloss varnish.
if I have varnshed with gloss already, can i now varnish over it with matt varnish?

ok, so I used Liquitex matte varnish after watching this video and it is not at all glossy, it's as matte as it can be, so I don't know what u used here, but the matte one definitely doesn't look like that; so I think this aspect is misinformative and it can confuse people, as it has myself

However, as an FYI - it states on the Liquitex Matte Medium bottle "Do not use as a final varnish".
