this is a very simple cloak design and can be done with no sewing or cutting.

Thank you so much for that idea!
I just wondered how I could dress my kids for mediaval festivals if it is colder- don't get me wrong, I love sewing. And their cloaks wouldn't need that much fabric anyways.
It's just.. I want to be prepared ahead of time and if they suddenly grow more than planned, , I don't want to start all over..^^

Another quicker way to close your cape is to overlap the two pieces of cloth, grab a pebble (or a coin, or other small object) and press it into the back side of the cloth, forming a sort of bag around it, then take the leather strap (or twine, or a shoelace, etc) and tie it around the pebble from the front. It becomes a sort of cloth covered button, without making a hole in the blanket.

Oh wow, I've done a basic no hood version of this before with lightweight shawls, but I didn't figure out the hood trick!!! That's so cool.... I've definitely got some sturdy badges or general metal pins that could do the job of a cloak pin.
I know my gran has loads of those old scratchy motel-style woolen blankets with the ribbon trim, I think I might procure a couple next time I visit her ;)

An added tip to tie the cape is to place a small round object like a D-20, quarter, large button or plastic bottle cap underneath the fabric, tie just behind it, so the fabric doesn’t slide out of the knot. Afterwards the string and button can go in your pocket or pouch, no harm done to the fabric.

Depending on length of material you could use it as a blanket through the night. I have material that’s so lovely I didn’t want to cut it to make a cape, now I don’t have to!😃

That's really cool, thx😊❤ I have a blanket I bought ro cut up and use for a christmas dress I was making (white floof blanket) but since I didn't end up making the dress rhe blanket just sits around, that hack is perfect for it😊

That's a great idea but do you know any light but warm material that I could use? Because where I live there's snow and when I go to the forests, I get cold (yeah even with a winter jacket) and a warm cloak would be helpful
