Manpower Minister Tan See Leng breaks fast with migrant workers at dormitory

Manpower Minister Tan See Leng urged migrant workers to take care of their safety and health, as dormitories marked the end of Ramadan and ushered in Hari Raya. He was speaking to dormitory residents, whom he joined to break fast. For the residents who are far from home, they said the iftar event was an opportunity for them to bond with one another.

The most disturbing situation that had emerged during the pandemic is the health vulnerability of the migrant workers as a result of the failure of the government to listen to the warnings of non-governmental civil society activists. And Singaporeans are genuinely appalled by the government’s neglect and sympathetic to the workers. Consequence to that is the urgent call for more civil society participation and for the government to respect the work of civil society.

There are many Overstayers working illegally here and living in miserable condition. Most are living in windowless warehouses, yards, workshop, eateries, forested areas etc. This can happens when we have laws, but no rules. The taxpayers are paying for a bunch of monthly "pay correct sir" public servants.
