ŠKODA HERITAGE: ŠKODA RAPID 130 (1987)

"I’ve had the pre-war Rapid for a long time now. And then I thought she could have company if I added the Rapid from the 80s, along with the 2012 model. After a short Internet search, I found the middle sister. I went to see her with my mom. It was simply love at first sight. And while moms are always right I didn’t let her talk me out of it.

Another encouraging sign that this was simply meant to be, was this Rapid shared the same colour of the one I already had. So within a week, I had both of them sitting side-by-side in my garage.

What makes this even more special is that it was the last ŠKODA model with the engine in the back and rear-wheel drive. But I don’t drive it all that much. I’ve only done about 100 km over two years.

This was the time when not all cars looked the same. There were many UK drivers who owned them and loved them. They defended the cars against those who laughed at them for not being like other cars. One owner always reminded me that on a cold British winter morning, he would trust his Skoda to start above any other car.

Edit. This car looked fantastic to me. And the one we called the Estelle as well. I would get one tomorrow if I could for the memories. Left hand drive or right hand drive, it doesn't matter. Unfortunately, there are only a very small number left in the UK. Like most cars of its time, it almost doesn't exist here anymore.

I had one in the same colour (although 136 rather than a 130) It remains one of the most enjoyable cars I've had. Fantastic handling, super reliable and just enough power. If VW really wants to impress they should allow Skoda to make a limited run 'drivers' car showing their true heritage.

I have the simple 120 L for 5 years and I like to drive my old Skoda. it was produced in '84. I hope I can keep it for more years. This Rapid version is even more beautiful if I would change my car I would go for the rapid version or the new superb :)

Sadly VW bought them and stopped the legacy

V roce 1981 se začalo vyrábět Garde, ne Rapid. Pokud teda nebere označení Rapid pro Garde na vývoz

Ich hatte den als 136 er 1990 neu gekauft, der hatte Recaro sitze und lederlenkrad von Indianapolis 1300ccm 63 ps das Auto hab ich Geliebt der lief immer ob im tiefsten Winter oder Sommer.Hab ihn dann wegen Familien Zuwachs mit schweren Herzens verkauft OHNE ROST !!! Der strahlte nach 6 Jahren genau wie am ersten Tag in Weiß. Solle ich mal ein Angebot bekommen einen restaurieten zu kaufen, hol ich mir einen .

I'm an American who fell in love with them when trying to find the best car made in a communist country, and based on the love of them people have in and out of the Sovietsphere I believe so. Somebody was selling one in the states though it looks like it was sold once again, though if I ever start collecting cars a Rapid is going to be in it.
