On a recent episode of the 31 Thoughts Podcast, Elliotte Friedman noted how Kyle Dubas would be forced into making a huge splash for his team should the Toronto Maple Leafs fail to impress in the 2021 NHL Season. Love Marner and want to keep him. But his contract is front loaded and signing bonuses. He can be traded in the off season after the July bonus. He is very tradable.

Holy mackerel, the season hasn't even started yet and you folks are already thinking about if the Leafs have a bad season.

how do you gauge "disappointment"? Not winning the cup? making the cup final? making the playoffs?

It better be NYLANDER. If that actually do

IMO, the Leafs biggest mistake was trading Kadri Instead of Nylander!!!

Dubas will get fired if this team completly shits the bed. As for trading Nylander he has been in talks regarding a few teams but don't want to trade him just because. Marners contract will be hard to move given the price tag. So if one has to go I wouldn't miss Marner if it came down to it. But again NO one wants to just take on that contract even if the leafs take on salery. Nylander has proven himself. Marner still needs to do that.

I wouldn’t lose an sleep if they traded both in a blockbuster trade. They both couldn’t check a suitcase into a hotel and are just goal sucks with no grit, will or pushback. They have talent and skill but that’s it.

Sad part is, at 30 years old cement-for-feet John Taveras would be the obvious one to trade, at that number(11per) I can't see many takers. Buuut it all doesn't matter because he has a no movement clause.

I think an important question to ask is what really is a disappointment for the Leafs? Anything short of a Cup, or failing to win a Round?

*MOST TEAMS ARE IN FINANCIAL TROUBLE (NOT CAP TROUBLE):*
After signing bonuses are paid next summer, cash owing will be:
*M.Marner* = $6, 180, 000 annually x 4 years.
*Nylander* = $4, 830, 000 annually x 3 years.

Those are extremely desirable to many teams ... Dubas is smarter than your analysis.

I don't think so. That doesn't make sense...

10.634 needs to go, problem with that, especially with a flat cap for at least 3 years, no team will take that contract, the only way is if the leafs take back the same money and that generally means it’s bad money. Nylander is the contract you NEED to keep, it’s the only value player you have.JT isn’t going anywhere, he took a haircut to come here and he has earned the right to play where he wants and that NMC has given him the power to stay.

Does anyone else think it's weird that Amirov and Abramov both outplayed Podkolzin at the world juniors?

Leaf's look good even if they lose ! What a star studded lineup. It's going to great just seeing them on the ice. Really super cool. Great season win or lose !
