How to make Vinegar Slaw or also called Freezer Slaw. This recipe is crisp and refreshing. It will make you smile when you taste it. Best to let it sit covered in the
refrigerator overnight.
Ingredients:
1 and 3/4 cups water
1 cup plain distilled vinegar
2 cups sugar
1/2 head of large cabbage
2 carrots

I could not believe how much I liked this the first time I tried this. Much better to cool in refrigerator overnight. I hope you try this!
Makes 16 small 4 ounce servings.

You can also transform this recipe into creamy cole slaw.
Spoon out any amount of cabbage cabbage and drain fairly well, add some mayonnaise to you liking and you have instant seasoned creamy cole slaw.

Tried 2 cups of sugar like you said!! It's way sweet for my taste ... next time I will start with 1 cup of sugar then adjust to taste. Thanks for sharing your recipe.

This slaw looks so refreshing. Perfect for summer instead of heavy mayonnaise. And no worries about it sitting out if it's hot outside. Thanks Michael! Happy weekend!

Good morning. Thank you so for once again sharing another simple recipe with us. I'm not too big of a fan of coleslaw but my husband absolutely loves it. I will give this recipe a try to see how he likes it. Again Michael thank you so much. Have a very blessed weekend. 😍👍👍😍

Michael! That is how my Swedish Grandma made coleslaw many years ago. I'm not sure if it was really a swedish dish but it sure was great! I haven't had that in (holy smokes!) 50 years or more. I will definitely try this out. Many thanks!

Yum! Love this mate, we've been making vinegar based slaws even when I was a boy. It was cheaper than mayonnaise 👍🏼

Great looking slaw, Michael. I like mayonnaise slaw, but I prefer vinegar style coleslaw.

Looks grand, Michael. I'll try sometime. Hey. The other night I ran into your old chicken cordon bleu recipe and it made me crave some like NOW. I didn't have on hand the ingredients you listed. No ham but I had bacon. No Swiss but I had cream cheese I'd brought from Germany and worst of all, no chicken breasts, only thighs. But I flattened the thighs and followed your method otherwise and it turned out slammin. Man it was good.

Looks like the perfect snack for a hot summer's day! I bet some caraway seeds would go good in it.

This is hands down my favorite style of cole slaw. Your recipe and the fine chop is very similar to what my mother has made for years. She would generally at least add some finely chopped onions or scalions and you can add a little bit of finely diced tomato and/or cucumber. She would also have some black pepper, paprika (I think), a splash or two of hot sauce or cayenne (to taste) but basically otherwise it's the same. I can just eat a bowl of this for a snack but it is great on a pulled pork barbecue sandwich, hot dogs, or as a side for any sort of cook out. Much better than mayo based cole slaws.

Thanks for the recipe. I have been fixing the Chick-Fil-A coleslaw recipe, but trying to get away from eating too much mayo and was looking for a good vinegar based coleslaw.
