Highlight has a big impact on how the face is saw by the audient. Sometime, that highlight can be too bright, make the face look flat.
Just a random theory, it may be wrong, take everything with a grain of salt

I jumped straight into the before and after section without watching any other part of the video and I could not tell the difference.

I only then spotted the difference after actually watching the video to get the necessary context.

I understood from the video the application of this technique but perhaps a better example could have been shown 😅. This one did not appear impactful to me.
