The chemical process in which a substance when reacts with oxygen gives off heat is called combustion. In the process of combustion, saturated hydrocarbons usually give a clean flame while unsaturated hydrocarbons give a yellow flame with lots of black smoke called sooty flame. But in the limited supply of air i.e., in incomplete combustion even saturated hydrocarbons produce a sooty flame as a result of incomplete combustion.

Even though the video doesn’t exactly answer my question, it’s still useful! At least I can use a bit of this knowledge in my lab report.
