If you “outsource” you are paying just to audition and have no guarantee job? That doesn’t make sense.
Also, with royalty share, at 50% you only receive 20%
Amazon keeps 60% and you and the rights holder split the other 40%. Just so everyone knows who may be interested in this.
Also the “per finished hour” is the time it takes to listen to the book once it’s completed. This doesn’t count the hours and hours it takes to record, edit, master and fix corrections that are sent back. Just something else to keep in mind.

There are too many obstacles. You must be a almost pro actor or an actress, fiverr charges are way more. they charge 5 or 15 per 100 words and if you have a 55000 words you pay them more than you receive. People dont get fooled, there are no free cheese in the mouse trap! this requires tons of work, ability to speak multiple languages and be able to mimic different accents. Vocal styles are very important, muscular, feminine, sarcastic and 100s of others. Nothing is free and easy except sitting home.

How do you credit the actual narrators with the second method you mentioned? It seems like the voice over artist would be missing out on getting credit for a large project.😪

Also, if you're going to narrate yourself, remember to take into account all the time you will spend prereading the book, editing and checking your tracks for quality, and factor that into what you're getting paid for the book.

lots of assumptions here, doesnt actually go into the cost of doing the job. Some Perspective, you do 10 hours of recording, really a 40 hr work week. how much did that cost you? your $100 pfh is more like 20$ per hour pay.
If you do that for just a royalty on a sale, what if your commission is .05 per book that's like 20000 audiobooks sold, and who know if that would be a month, a year or even the full 7 before it sells out. Or the author could pull the title before the time runs down. Royalties are nice if you can afford to do it, but cash in hand pays the rent.
