Guess it’s that time of year that I have to educate people that dressing is cooked outside the bird, stuffing is cooked stuffed in the bird.

As a Californian who went to college in Nebraska, I can confirm chili and cinnamon rolls is a thing and pretty good

South Carolinian here! I currently live in Texas but visit family during Thanksgiving. Here’s some staples in my family’s celebration:

-Handmade Bacon Mashed Potatoes
-Fried Chicken
-Turkey (most of the time fried as well but sometimes we roast it)
-Bacon Green Beans
-Lima beans
-Oatmeal Cream Pies
-Bundt cake from Walmart
-Roasted Chicken
- Stuffing
-Mac and cheese (the good kind in the pretty casserole dish)
-“Salad bar” (for those outliers that want to eat healthy)
- Bacon Mac and cheese (also the good kind in the second to prettiest casserole dish)
- Fried okra from a local mom and pop shop (if no one pisses off the delivery driver, aka the last person to show up to the gathering)
-Tons of PEPSI and sweet tea
- Macy’s parade on in the background
- Gun Slingers on in the background once the parade is done
-Someone barbecuing something in the back of the house but no one under 20 gets to know what.

And that is why I gain 10 pounds just looking inside the kitchen 😂

Rice and gravy is what we ate when I was a kid and we were too broke to buy potatoes.

But we usually ate white rice with sugar and butter. Sometimes as a dessert, sometimes as a side with dinner.

The first time I had dinner with my now-husband’s parents and they had rice, and I asked where the butter and sugar was, they looked at me like I was an alien.
I thought everyone ate rice like that, but apparently not?

Still rice with gravy or rice with butter and sugar are comfort foods for me.

Loved SC’s comment about rice and gravy! Grew up in SC, rice and gravy was a staple — but sometimes momma made mashed potatoes (or mac and cheese) as a SIDE for the rice and gravy!🤣

If you cook it inside the bird, then it’s stuffing. If you cook it in a dish, it’s dressing. If you cook it in a saucepan it’s Stove Top.

stuffing is when it's stuffed in the turkey, dressing is when it ain't. if you make too much stuffing to fit inside the turkey then it's both

As a Mississippian there is a hill of corn based bread that you season and eat eith you food. You dress up the turkey with flavor.

For me it's stuffing if it's 'stuffing' the turkey and anything cooked outside it is dressing.
