I had a very good Samsung S7 Edge. Then I cracked the screen and was quoted $165 repair. The new Samsung S9 costs $700, so I bought a $200 Huawei Y9 2019 to tie me over until the arrival of 5G phones. After using Y9 for a month, I realize it was a good choice because Y9 photos are as good and battery beats S7E hands down. BTW, UK consumer council rated Huawei most reliable of all phones, iPhone was the runner up, then Samsung. I now have a Samsung S4 and a S7 both with cracked screen in my drawer.
Of course Samsung screen is better but only if compared side by side. I can put up with that with the pleasure of saving $500, enough to buy me a new Y9 successor every year for the next 2 and half years.

A9 is 2x more expensive than y9, but performance wise is rather similar. camera and display wise, A9 is better but Y9's amazing price beats it. So i would say y9 is a smarter and better choice.
