✍ Return of investment is a very small portion of the overall value that you bring with a virtual care strategy in your system. It is just the tip of the iceberg and you need to concentrate on the overall value that the virtual care strategy can bring to your patients and to your revenue.

If you have a service and if that service can bring an amount of subspecialty care that you need, then you can decrease the number of transfers and also can get to the diagnosis faster. This will decrease the hospital stay and most importantly the expensive portion of the ICU stay as well because subspecialty care can decide when the patient can safely be moved from an ICU standpoint to a ward or a floor. These things bring a tremendous amount of value in terms of cost savings. And more importantly, you're able to give access to specialty care to your patients, you're able to create new service line and be able to expand on them because then you can provide additional services, like EG, EMG, etc., So the value on investment is significantly higher than the return on investment and when you are making a decision in that situation, you have to make sure that you're looking at the overall value that the virtual care strategy brings. It is a win-win situation. This is truly a win-win situation, not just for the patient but also very good for the system as well!

But the most important thing is to understand that you have to have a strategy and the legislation is catching up. There are two current bills in the Congress and Senate and currently, the fight is not to support those bills but for sponsors so that their name comes on it. So it's interesting that the complete argument has shifted towards supporting Telehealth in a way that their name comes on as compared to actually just getting the bill passed. So, it is extremely important that you are not thinking of just telemedicine as a service or telehealth in general. You should have a complete comprehensive virtual care strategy and deliver care for the next century and not from the past century.
