NYPD staff stretched too thin to combat NYC crimes

As NYC looks to add more cops to combat subway crimes, the NYPD has already lost thousands of transit cops, PBA President Pat Lynch said.

But what's the difference? You can have 100.000 cops, but what it helps if you won't keep bandits in jail?

My idea to fix the problems in the subway:

1) Replace the turnstiles with new models that are designed to not allow people to jump over them. This will recoup 500 million each year in lost fares. It will also lower the amount of deranged homeless people on the subways and subway platforms.

2) Upgrade the subway platforms with plexiglass barriers that would prevent nutjobs from pushing people onto the tracks. Airports have had these barriers for years, why don't NYC subway stations?

3) Add a lot more 4k quality security cams to make it easier to identify and capture criminals in the act.

4) Use half of the recouped 500 million to pay for those hardware upgrades and use the other half to pay for more cops. A NYC cop's salary is around 73k on the high end. 250 million would pay for 3, 243 new cops. Once those hardware upgrades are paid for, you can use that full 500 million each year to double the cops to 6, 486 which could be spread out amongst those police stations that are understaffed which will make the entire city safer.

And the problem is that people are valuing the rights of the criminals over the rights of the victims.

That's the truth, NYPD is totally understaffed. Not because the NYPD isn't hiring, it's the Governor and the Mayor aren't truly supporting the NYPD. The NYPD is underpayed for the violence they literally face. The Governor and the Mayor has to increase the NYPD salaries and open the NYPD Academy for more recruit's. 650 police recruits is not going to work in a city that is over a million plus residents and lord knows how many tourists that come to NYC. They seriously need to consider getting qualified recruit's upward of around 6k-10k enrolled in the academy.
