Several years ago we came in contact with a young man who was in the process of adopting Reformed theology but was still functioning within the hyper-fundamentalist world. Chris Jones had contacts within the New IFB movement and was pastoring a church which had connections to the Hyles / Ruckman movement. He left that and began attending what he believed was a more biblical church, and is now serving as an intern pastor in an independent Reformed church. This interview brings us up to date on his departure from the extreme IFB movement and getting established in historic, Protestant Christianity.

Regarding repentance, there’s not a single verse in the KJV that I think is beyond a reasonable “easy believism” compatible explanation. We can use the KJV to define repentance and carefully examine the context to determine what type of repentance is being referred to.

As an example, regarding good theologians who have had a weak view on creation, BB Warfield I think (if I recall correctly) made room for weaker views of the beginning of Genesis.

While I certainly have big concerns with some of the “Ruckmanite” teaching that Chris was exposed to, it’s sad to see him appear to walk away from a Ruckmanite view of KJV Onlyism. To go from “thus saith the LORD” to “a better rendering might be” is ultimately just liberal theology under the guise of conservative scholarship. It rips away the authority of an every word Bible, thus leaving the common man in shambles as to what to believe about anything.
