In this video Elon Musk has an urgent warning to the world about nuclear power and energy security, PROOF Wall St analysts are still CLUELESS, and I mean CLUELESS, about Tesla. And “EV stocks” continue to fall apart, punishing so called “investors” who failed to think–at all–before parting with their hard earned, quickly vaporised money.

I was in the US Navy and I ran a nuclear power plant on a Submarine. You are right, nuclear power is incredibly safe. Nuclear is the best option for a base load on the electric grid. My sub was not allowed (at that time) was not allowed a berth in Australia due to being nuclear powered. I think that changed in the late 1980's, at least in Perth.

I am a high conviction TSLA investor, but I have some fear over the effect on TSLA if China decides to move aggressively on Taiwan.

Traditional nuclear power? What do you do with the nuclear waste? Becoming energy independent is spot on because it lowers The leverage that countries have over each other. With so much demand for energy why isn't Tesla building factories for solar panels like they're building factories for electric cars ??

The real problem with nuclear is that is it is actually extremely expensive.
It takes over decade to bring a plant online (design, permitting, construction, commissioning...), during that decade plus there is other huge costs to fill the gap of energy not provided by the planned nuclear plant. Then even it the facility is totally safe during operation, the spent fuel still needs to be stored for ever, and eventually the facility needs to be retired. Additionally one of the biggest costs that is not covered is insurance, no insurance company will cover nuclear facilities so the nation has to cover this cost which is an enormous unrecognized cost. Typically the cost of insurance, fuel storage and plant decommissioning ore not factored into the real cost of energy. All of these issues actually make nuclear much more expensive than other options. The cheapest option is to bring on more renewable power as fast as possible. One of the big benefits is that renewables are enormously faster to come on line than big fossil and nuclear facilities.

Nuclear is needed for the immediate term.

However, keep in mind that all it takes is 1 gram of nuclear waste to make an area the size of Central Park exceedingly toxic. Plus it usually takes 2 decades before cancer symptoms appear as a result of radiation exposure.

Global nuclear power needs to be shutdown if we don’t want to fry slowly to death after the next runaway thermonuclear disaster.

100% agree, should not be shutting down perfectly fine nuclear reactors. Maybe shouldn’t build new ones if renewable energy alternatives are cheaper and can be built faster.

Solar panels your roof plus 2 power walls and an EV that can also power your home. Get yourself as energy independent as possible.

Just to let you know: Switzerland doesn‘t actually shut down it‘s existing nuclear power plants. They ale all allowed to run as long as they meet all safety requirements or until the necessary upgrades don‘t make any economic sense anymore and the owning company decides to shut them down.
It is correct that it‘s currently not possible to build new plants anymore, but that law could quite easily be changed if need arrives. It‘s just that no company would actually invest in such a plant. It does not make economic sense. Nuclear is so much more expensive than solar and hydro. New wind farms are very difficult to build because there is always a huge local resistance.
There is actually a plan for new gas plants just for unexpected shortages - but that plan has hopefully died last week. In my opinion they are nor really needed. Clever management of our hydro dams in the Alps would be sufficient.

Elon has GUARANTEED that both the new German factory and the one in Texas will each produce 28 cars. This will SMASH GM's EV production numbers.

I was one of those who believed nuclear energy was dangerous because of horrific stories about 3 mile Island, chernobyl and other catastrophes. Thanks for enlightening me to the truth.

Not that everything you read is true but I've read a lot of articles about how solar is so inexpensive these days that even if you were given a nuke plant for free, it is more cost effective to shut it down and install new solar. The total footprint of the land makes just as much power as the nuke plant too. So I'm wondering why Elon would push for this unless the comment was meant as a way to help fix the situation in Europe as fast as possible.

Radiation risk is low. When no radiation leaks.

Enjoying a 'near miss' is not an example of no leaks.

Big Issue you guys probably don’t know about SMR: around 10 of France´s 56 reactors are in maintenance for corrosion issues until late summer, this almost never happens, double bad timing! 🥴🥴🥴

I don't understand why nobody talks about the real reason countrys like Germany phased out nuclear power: We don't know where to put the nuclear garbage that these plants produce. Remember they have to be shut of from the environment for millions of years when civilization as we know it doesn't exist anymore

It was not fear from accidents but fear of creating a problem that we can't solve for millions of years that made us stop nuclear power

Actually, nuclear power is way too expensive v renewable generation. Look at Scotland’s supply or Norway’s supplies! The cost of the electricity from the UK’s next built plant at Hinckley Point will, after the many many build years, will cost households 4 times per kWh v wind, hydro and solar that’s already supplying Scotland with 98% of last years power! Adding many more offshore wind in the next 10-15 yrs will make us net positive for electric and costs keep coming down for manufacturing, as well as very short build times for new ‘fields’

Check out France too. Just looking at a single European country makes zero sense.

It's too damn late IMO to start building huge, complex, and centralized nuclear power plants. If you can easily restart existing plants fine. In the mean time, how about promoting roof top solar, heat pumps, batteries, and energy conservation. Oh that's so much harder. It's working really well in the US too. 🙄

In Austria we oppose to nuclear since we have a lot of renewable hydro power and wind and a lot more can be done with wind and solar etc. There is no need to use non-renewable, radioactive waste producing plants. And nuclear does not help at all if you heat your home with gas (and thousands of homes can not be switched with a flip to electric alternatives). If you think nuclear is not dangerous, why did the whole world fear when russia attacked the plant in Ukraine ? Think twice.
