To abandon your pet means you don't think about him / her as a part of your family. If you abandon your wife or child you get public rejection, but when you abandon your "beloved" pet, you're understood... Sad, since that animal loves you as his God, and you repay his loyalty and love with the same thing you do to your trash... dumping!
