Congrats Ju, a victory couldn’t be more deserved. Solid play throughout the tournament, she was never behind at any point, always had the lead in very convincing manners, she’s really a stellar GM. Gg to polina as well, she gave it her all and fought hard until the very end. Eliminated 3 GMs and held her own against a 4 time world champion

Now let’s talk about the elephant in the room. How many games were lost due to lag in the last seconds? The commentators kept trying to play it down under „Omg she flagged, she should’ve played faster“ while we all know, these world class players are well versed in time trouble and don’t simply flag with 2-3s on the clock. Sara Khadem suffered loses due to lag vs Alice Lee, Kosteniuk vs Narva was heavily influenced by time reductions, also Hou vs Shuvalova wasn’t clean at all in this aspect. Anyone that watches TT streams from the players perspective noticed how often players make moves with several seconds left on the clock just to see the window pop up, saying they lost, often while having premoved or even seeing the opponents response as the last move before losing on time. This is a huge issue that needs to be addressed and resolved - the bracket might have looked entirely different if the conditions were fair. Why isn’t anyone talking about this?

Everything Everywhere All at Once: Ju Wenjun won the 2024 Women's SCC Title by beating all her opponents in all three speed chess formats: 5+1, 3+1, 1+1 and of course she is also 4 times Classical Chess Women World Champion. Perfect record.
