Where Will The Funding Come From? (Gulf Dispatches)

Since 2010, the Gulf of Mexico Research Initiative (GoMRI) has funded the largest research collaboration in the history of marine science. As its $500 million commitment draws to a close, scientists are worried about the future.

To continue this important research, there are two main pathways to funding: 1) the federal government and 2) industry. Is either a viable option? What are the potential pitfalls?
