1991 Volkswagen Jetta 2.0L (16V)- No Crank No Start

working on a 91 vw jetta gli 2.0l 16v, this is my veh and it has an intermittent no crank no start and it finally will not start so I pulled the camera out, I hope you guys enjoy this video and thanks for watching

Oh man I haven't seen one of these in years 😂. I remember that system all too well . The other lockout switch you were looking for is the clutch pedal switch . First time I ever had a go at this I did the same thing as you, except not on video, and with plenty of swear words ... come to think of it I may have invented a new one or three 🤔

Good diagnosis, thanks for pointing out the wire gauge sizes on the schematic. It hadn't occurred to me that you could tell the load side of a circuit by that.

good find on that broken wire, that other switch your looking for is on the clutch pedal, if you follow the wire from the relay that's ware it goes, the wire from the seat belt goes to the other side when you push the pedal down it connects the ground to the relay so you don't start the car in gear, somebody, at one time, connected the switch together with a jumper wire if the switch went bad, I have done that in the past. All manual trans cars will have a starter relay and some type of switch no the clutch pedal, an old care like that may have two the other is to disengage the cruise control when slowing down

Interesting anti-theft device in that seatbelt. I mean, no car thief is gonna put his seatbelt on before he takes off! I bet that's frustrated more than one thief back in the day. That fuse box internal is insane. Can hardly believe my eyes. Well done Tom. Thanks!

These cars never had any switch on the clutch pedal I think it only started back in 1996

stick a small wire nut on the two wires and find out why the car won't start, check for spark and fuel! ETC.
