6:55 open source doesn't mean insecure. It means everyone has access to the source code. Everyone can see how AES (an encryption standard used on WiFi routers everywhere) works and there has never been a successful attack on it. So as long as your using good encryption it doesn't matter who has access to the source code. Lastly, how do you KNOW apple is not stealing all your data? Because, as you said, they own everything you use, so they could be piping your data back to their servers without you knowing.

I love both platforms. I'm excited! I recently switched over to Samsung. This would be game changing!

I think this whole universal approach to messaging is long overdue. Hence the reason why sometimes people will just use apps like WhatsApp because it is in fact, universal.

I am the only android user in my family, everyone else is iPhone. I also live in a dorm with often crappy cell service, but perfectly good wifi, and am always frustrated when I have wifi, but can't text someone reliably. This is SOOO exciting all my issues with texts not always going through, or me not receiving texts (even though I have wifi) are finally being solved.

As an Android user, I'm interested but not optimistic. Just because Apple adopts the RCS protocol for pics/videos (which is great) doesn't mean all the other messaging options that Google offers will carry over to iMessage. I suspect we won't see any improvement in any of those situations.

If you really think about it the only user seeing those green bubbles are the iPhone users. So clearly that doesn't bug me. All I want is to be able to send and receive high-quality videos and photos. That is all nothing more nothing less.

will google still claim it was about security when the bubbles will remain green or was it really about the ostracization afterall lol

Great video on the explanation of what the overall experience will be like when Apple adopts RCS messaging. Like you said at the end of the video, if the service is going to improve messaging services between iOS and android, I’m all for it. It drives me crazy when I get those errors saying message undelivered!

The talking points about this are going to be a mess for the next week. This is going to be made out to sound as if Apple came to the rescue of Android when in actuality, this was an Apple created problem and an iPhone experience problem. The rest of phone manufacturers and carriers worldwide have been moving to RCS for 8 years now. Apple chose to create a broken encryption problem by maintaining SMS and MMS. Nothing phone forced their hand by creating a work around that ironically compromised security for the Apple ecosystem. But what if the Android Manufacturers and Carriers decided to end support for SMS and MMS? Apple would've had to comply or get put under government review again. iMessage is great and RCS wouldn't have stopped it from being great so they could've done right thing long ago. How about next time lets not wait for the EU to mandate a change like USB-C and lets not wait until someone finds a work around to do what's best for the consumer.

I think RCS messages for iPhone will come with iOS 18. It wouldn't surprise me if it did. And I also think when it comes to group messages between iPhone users and Android users I think all messages in the group will be RCS Messages.

For any ios users, this video is very misleading. First off, Google messages is what majority of Android users use today. We already have e2ee and read receipts, reactions, share location etc via google messages. Our messages are secure, google cannot even intercept them. RCS is the Android version of imessage. Apple supporting RCS will make it so that its a better user experience when texting between the 2 ecosystems. Thats all this will do. Us Android users will still enjoy the same functionality but only with other Android users, same as ios users with other ios users via imessage. Lastly, this is a US problem because the rest of the world pretty much uses 3rd party apps like whatsapp.

Not going to lie, I was very happy to hear that because I always wanted to go back to a foldable phone but the messaging on android was so horrible….if apple doesn’t release a foldable phone I’m going back to a foldable one for sure .

😂 the experience is already great for Android phones. iPhones don't realize they are are the only ones that have the issues when talking to Android phones. That's why Apple is changing it.

Apples engineers are frantically working to find ways to make the experience terrible for android users to communicate with iPhones versus make it better… I’d bet my left arm

As long as RCS is not a spam vector like it was in India last year, where it had to be temporarily turned off by Google, I am okay with it.
