Cooking with Kids: Simple Gyoza

Learn how to make simple gyoza with children.
Recipe
Ingredients:
1/2 lb minced pork
4-5 cabbage leaves
1 clove of garlic
1 piece of ginger
1 pack of gyoza pastries (25-30 sheets)
Seasoning:
sesame oil
1 tsp chicken powder
pepper
soy sauce
vinegar (for dipping sauce)
Equipment:
grater
knife
scissors
chopping board
bowls
sauce pan with a lid
Method:
1) Cut and discard the stem parts of the cabbage leaves.
2) Chop the rest of the cabbage finely and put them aside in a bowl.
3) Grate garlic and ginger into the bowl with the chopped cabbage.
4) Put the minced meat into the bowl with the other ingredients.
5) Add, 1 tsp of chicken powder, some pepper, a splash of soy sauce and sesame oil.
6) Mix them thoroughly with hand. This is the filling for gyoza.
7) Prepare a bowl of water.
8) Dip a finger into the water bowl and wet the rim of a pastry sheet.
9) Scoop a teaspoonful of the filling and place in the middle of a pastry sheet.
10) Fold them together into a semi-circle shape and pleat the top part of the sheet. Wrap all the filling with pastry sheets, one by one.
11) Heat up a sauce pan and grease with oil.
12) Place gyoza in the heated pan and fry for 2-3 minutes until brown.
13) Pour hot water into the pan to cover 1/3 of the height of gyoza.
14) Place a lid on the pan and steam cook until the water evaporates.
15) Take off the lid and drizzle some sesame oil.
16) Brown the gyoza for further 2-3 minutes until the bottom of the gyoza become crispy.
17) Scrape off the gyoza, ideally in a row from the pan and flip them into a plate.
18) Mix vinegar with a small splash of soy sauce to make a dipping sauce.
19) Dip gyoza into the dipping sauce and enjoy!
