A very good video! Your explanation was easy to understand and you did a great job explaining both scenarios!

Hope you enjoyed the video!

One other thing to consider is the self-discharge rate of the packs themselves, not something I could measure, but they probably also drain the battery slowly over time.

Straight to point with some actual useful information.
Love it!

Thank you very, very much for the video! Finally somebody used actual science to explain whether or not to leave the batteries in your tools. I have a 12v Makita drill & driver set that is about 12 years old. The case they are in is designed to hold the tools with the batteries in them... so I do. I have left those in the case for years without using them. The batteries still have juice and the tools and batteries are just fine every time I've had to use them. When I do use them, I always charge them before I put them up again. Don't know if they are somehow different from the newer batteries, but this has been my experience.

I left my dads m12 Milwaukee connected to its drill for 2 years in a cold garage and came back to it with half charge when pulling the trigger. Die hard Milwaukee fan after that!

Great explanation with perfect demonstration! Thanks for putting this in the proper technical perspective (but explained for the layman).

Curious if the batteries come off the tool easy? I have like 5 Dewalts and it’s so difficult for me to get the batteries out.

Good Vid. Also don't leave them in the chargers all the time. Some line glitches cause the chargers to restart a charge and can destroy a battery over time.

how long do you think the battery lasts for these

Why do they draw power though? The one that draws less power I mean. It doesn’t have anything running until you pull the trigger

There is no power draw from the battery if the battery is not attached to the tool. Therefore, it’s probably good practice to detach the battery when the tool is not required for use within a 20 to 30 minute window.

Great video And well executed. I never really thought about it, but yes, I'm definitely one of those who Leaves tools plugged in all the time. I would be curious, most of my tools are pre brushless Would that make any difference Having brushed tools?

Even if it would take 100 years to drain from full, I wouldn’t leave them in. Lithium ion packs drain faster than that during storage even with no draw, which obviously isn’t being factored in, and then there is the distinct likelihood that it will be left in AFTER draining to the point where the tool dies. Another factor is having the cells go out of balance, which can ruin the pack from only one cell discharging.

Why the heck do you Need Bluetooth on a drill?
