The shoe is pretty durable and affordable for a shoe geared toward skateboarding, but it has a major flaw. It might not bother some skaters, but it did bother me.

Keep up the good work. Just watched your live stream with Mike. 35 and will be getting in to freestyle and flatland.

This is great! Super slick video and I enjoyed hearing what you had to say. I find "skate shoes" don't always translate well to freestyle, we have different needs and different spots that wear away. Those FP insoles are essential though, my feet are so much happier since I started using them.

I’m currently skating in regular Old Schools and I’m having the same problems you did. I’ll for sure upgrade to the pros next time!!!

I like Kyle Walker Pro a lot. They look great, lasted me a lot, offers good feet protection for such compact shoe. Also they have some tech in a sole, and soles on my shoes are still in a good condition.

Have you ever thought about trying DKL non-abrasive griptape? I feel like with your skating style it could save you a ton of money in shoes. It's made of rubber so caspers and freestyle tricks like that won't tear up the tops of your shoes at all. I've been skating it for 9 months now and my shoes are in great shape. The most wear on the shoes is the part that actually touches the pavement. I'd definitely recommend giving it a shot.

It looks like you're making good progress learning a lot of freestyle tricks. You're making more progress than I am. I used to skate back in the 80s and like you, started skating again after about 20 years at the start of the pandemic. So far I have been using Adidas Sambas which I have found to be pretty durable. I would say the uppers are almost indestructible for non-skating purposes. Probably the only thing you would wear though is the sole. However, the side probably would get pretty thrashed if it weren't for the fact for another trick that I came up with. My dad had some Zip Systems tape which I taped to the side of the shoe I do my ollies on. The tape is really thick and sticky. A lot more durable than duct tape. I think I could make the shoes almost last forever except the soles using the tape. I'm not doing freestyle tricks like you are where the board is on top of your foot though. Maybe the shoes don't look the greatest with the tape on the side, but, certainly no worse than having them be thrashed as hell. Once the tape starts getting thrashed, I can add new. And that hasn't happened very often. Sambas IMHO, while technically a soccer shoe, aren't that different from actual skate shoe IMHO. And I have found them for $39 on sale at Amazon. They seem to put them on sale at least a few times a year. I wore them before I got back into skating. I have multiple pairs as back ups now. I always thought Vans were garbage back in the 80s. They basically had no ankle support or anything. Of course back then, I wore bulkier shoes like Converse Cons or Airwalks.

to rip the insoles out stick a sharp object in such as a knife or scissors and pry it open then once you get the heel off just pull and use brute force and it gets the job done, vans old skool classics with the vans pros insoles are a godsend

If I were a skateshop owner, I would put a big box there for people to throw the surviving shoe and to pick a not wasted one. I wonder if it would work or just create a skate scene where everybody is wearing unmatching sneakers :D

Using an old All Star converse here, waiting for it to disintegrate to buy proper skate shoes.

I've never skated anything other than DC shoes. Everyone tells me they are too bulky for freestyle. I just laugh at them with my perfectly unbruised feet. 😂🤣 I only wear out the bottom of my shoes tho. Mob grip + footwork = new shoes

I also got insoles for my shoes and they've been amazing. My feet appreciate it. Also, I haven't had problems using my insoles with shoes that don't have removable insoles
