Afghanistan is a very complex place where family, clan and tribe have more power over hearts and minds than a nation government ever will.
So if your tribal leaders say that we are now working with the Talibain. You are now working with the Talibain.
Does this mean that your tribe is part of the Talibain no it means that right now it means that an alliance has been made.
Terms of an alliance doesn't always mean full corporation.
So the United States most work within the structure of the culture of Afghanistan.

If the taliban are also fighting ISIS-K, and cannot use the info provided to be more of a security threat to the US, then it may be justified. It depends on whether helping the taliban fight ISIS-K benefits us in the long run. Maybe having ISIS-K be a thorn in their side is better for us? Maybe if ISIS-K become a bigger problem, things will be worse off, and give ISIS a come back? Who knows. This isn’t necessarily stupid to consider.
