Huh, guess I wouldn't have made my video on Norilsk had I seen this. I like the theme you went with and the music.

Tell a Russian you've been to Saint Petersburg and he'll laugh and say “That's not really Russia.”
Tell him you want to visit Norilsk and he'll say “That's too much Russia.”

My girlfriend spent a few years up there in Norilsk when her step-father worked in the refineries there when she was growing up. Safe to say, she absolutely despised it. Funnily enough though, she legitimately has the most Russian stories from her time up there including finding a potentially mob related pistol thrown into a tailing pond, petting polar bears, and playing outside at 3am in the morning when it’s perfectly sunny out. I always find it funny when I try to flex on her a little bit of the bad weather we get in Canada, but then I remember… oh wait she’s literally spent many years in frozen hell. Fortunately she was a child at the time and it didn’t really affect her in any negative ways! I think it just filled her mind up with wonder about the rest of the world!

Noril'sk was a polluted wasteland during the Soviet era, perhaps even more than now. I'm waiting for Bald and Bankrupt to visit - Noril'sk must be a goldmine of babushkas, mosaics and Soviet sinks.

There was a huge oil spill there recently. Just from some old tank 21, 000 tons poured into the river. As a result, Norilsk Nickel will have to pay more than $ 2 billion. Perhaps such fines would not be news for the West, but Russian environmentalists are happy) Perhaps something is changing for the better.

Actually, even though average salary in Russia is $700, as you mentioned, the median salary is about $200-$300. That means in Norilsk you can get paid two-three times more than in every Russian region (except Moscow and St. Petersburg)

love how you put random stock images and videos that are not from Norilsk

Fun fact: there's not even a single frame depicting Norilsk in this whole video (except satellite images). Nice job.

I feel so bad for them! Sacrificing a decade of their already short lifespan, for an average salary that is almost nothing compared to in Sweden, my homeland. Our average salary is 3546 USD (31.200 SEK) and we still get to enjoy a long life (average 82.3 years). It ain't fair!

You neglected to mention that the Russian government does not allow visitors to Norilsk. It is still considered one of Russia's "secret cities" if only for it's historic health hazards these days. But even Russian citizens require special permission to travel there.

I live in Norilsk. And I don't know what the video is about, but there is not a single shot from Norilsk on the video. moreover, most of the cadres are not from our country at all. And where the architecture is similar to ours, it is mainly Ukraine. I understood from the text on the billboards. ;)
Who wants to look at the outskirts of Norilsk, type in a search engine: nuclear winter in Norilsk. So or: Ядерная зима в Норильске.
