Welcome to Malaysia! Today we are in Malacca, Malaysia, a historic city filled with vibrant culture and captivating heritage that invites visitors on a memorable journey. As we wandered through its narrow streets, we encountered stunning colonial architecture, ancient temples, and bustling markets. We began our day exploring the iconic red buildings of Dutch Square and immersed ourselves in the rich history at the A Famosa Fort and the Church of Saint Paul. We indulged our taste buds with the mouthwatering flavors of watermelon juice, chicken rice balls, and dinner on Jonkers Street. We headed to the mosque at sundown and heard the call to prayer. We ended the evening with a scenic river cruise along the Malacca River, just as the city lights turned on, and then headed for a delicious cendol treat to top off the whole experience. With its fascinating fusion of cultures, Malacca promises an unforgettable experience. We can’t wait to explore more of this city with you!

ABOUT US
We are the Bags Packed Family: Jonathan and Kelly with our three children. We sold our home in Alaska, USA, eight years ago, and headed overseas. We are teachers and found fantastic teaching positions in Chennai, India. Two years later, we moved to the United Arab Emirates. Three years after that, during the beginning of the pandemic, we made the move to our current teaching jobs in Indonesia. We love traveling and finding adventures as a family. We hope that our travels will inspire and provide our children with the confidence to meet new people, try new foods, and enjoy learning a new language. We hope our vlogs will inspire you to get out and travel, too!

Hey hey. The chicken rice balls are just compressed chicken rice which are meant to be eaten with a side of chicken. They do not contain chicken at all except the flavor. Imagine a plate of chicken rice but the rice are in balls. 😀 . The owner should have told you that. Hehe.

Forest finally found his fave country - Malaysia! Never seen him so chatty and happy.. and.. he eats well here too!
Also, the chicken rice ball is just all rice. probably cooked with chicken oil and broth. No slices of chicken in them..

The section in the metal cage inside the church - was where St. Francis Xavier was buried for a year. He died on an island in China, was brought back here and buried until the trade winds changed and his friend could take him back to Goa in India with him.

The name of Melaka(Malacca) stated in the Map of the World at Monument of Discoveries in Lisbon, Portugal... Basically, Cendol is green noddles that made from Pandan leaves extract, rice flour, corn flour & other ingredients, served with cooked old coconut milk, coconut palm sugar & ice... 🙂

Victoria Regina is Latin for Queen Victoria-that is our Victoria monument from back when we were under the British Empire, up to our independence in 1957.

24:18 the rice is cooked in chicken broth as fat-gives it the really special flavour! I boil the chicken first with ginger, garlic, scallions, lemongrass, soy beans, sesame seed oil and parsley, then when done, the remaining liquid I reserve half as the broth to serve the dish with and the other half I use to cook the rice in.

I love that you adventure to places that are a little off the grid. I've never heard of Malacca, Malaysia and love that you share the culture and things that are a little more unique. Such an amazing history lesson - how cool your kids get to learn about the world this way!

Hi, travelling family, for the chicken rice, you can ask for a half chicken to be cut up and served with 6 plates of rice too. My family does that in Malaysia. You choice
