This was perfect. I have no knowledge of electric guitars but would like to get one within this year. Love my accoustic but it's time to try something new. This was great info! Thanks!

I know this video is old but I just found it so helpful. Had 2 4 hour long practice sessions with a friends guitar and I’m trying to decide what to get for my first!!

This would have been much more helpful to me 59 years ago :0)

You should talk about the floyd rose bridge. I would not recommend one to a beginner.

Thanks for sharing your information. Looking to learn how to play electric guitar for the first time. I appreciate your video, looking to tap in the late 60’s and early 70’s with the distorted guitars.

Been watching your channel since before I even bought a guitar. I like it that much. With my first electric I didn't think to ask these particular questions but I did watch a whole lot of videos and really did my research since I only have one guitar shop in this little town. I bought a piece of crap $80 best choice acoustic that I knew was only for learning chords and practice. The action was seven credit cards tall. really bad lol. When I was ready I went with a Chapman and I couldn't be happier. Heard a lot of positive and negative about fender this and Les Paul that and such. I don't regret my choice it's just the one I made, the thing is amazing. All the while your videos have been a fantastic tool for my growth as a player learning properly this time. thank you so much for them.

I have watched videos of a same kind and I'm wondering if I'm the only one who picks a guitar considering the position of the tuning knobs.

Great information, especially about the set up. I don't recall if you distinguished between a big box and Mom and pop retailers, however I appreciate the plug fo ther reverb site.

Which guitar should I buy so I don't have to practice anymore?

OK, I'm messing with ya. More seriously:
Seems to me in my ignorance, that how an electric plays depends on the setup (string height, neck, etc) but how it sounds will depend on a lot on the amp. Any thoughts?
Practice amps vs performance amps?

As a new player without experience on a variety of guitars, when I go to have my guitar set up, how low should I have them make the action? Is there a general range that's best for beginners, or do I want them to go as low as possible before issues like string buzzing can crop up? Does string gauge affect this choice?

All you've succeeded in doing is convincing me that I need another guitar. Cheers Erich, great video!

But if you buy used, how do you ensure that there is no serious problem with the guitar, that will be expensive to fix? Do you have any pointers, from your own experience, on what look out for?

5:50 bad comparison...arranged marriages last longer :) I still have my classical guitar which I still play and was recommended and arranged by my music school teacher almost 20 years ago... I've been looking around for years to buy another but still coming out with nothing :)
