Glad someone finally just said what good low end means in one adjective. Tons of people are super vague about what low end is actually supposed to be.

Yes. It's surprising how many popular songs miss this point.

This is so on point.

I would like to argue that the biggest culprit for an inconsistent bass signal/sound, is the room in which the bass is being mixed. Those standing waves!!!

Consistently delivering great info Warren! :-) A consistent low end is really important.

Incase anyone is troubled he means consistent not constant. This is mixing advice not arrangment

For me, high output passive pickups, couple of gain stages (dirt and clean), lite compression, HPF. It’s the gain that keeps it loud up the fretboard.

I realized this quickly. Hated my bass without compression. It's very hard to play it consistently

What about the idea of dropping out for emotional impact? I love how great it sounds when it comes back in.

Yup, ..consistent. But playing a high on the low E still sounds thick and heavy.

My 2 cents. To me when the track you're recording has the drums and bass done well, your track is 50 percent done.

I don't know about advice like this, many people will crush the low end on the masterbus, loosing the energy. And imho your bass guitars for example shouldnt have the same volume all over the place, so you can have some ups and and downs in terms of impact. Also, in 90% of Songs we have a kick drum that wants to cut through the bass guitar and with a crushed low end you dont have that bump in your 20-40hz when the kick comes in.

I just think this topic is way too big for a youtube shorts video.

...unless you're New Order, and it's the 80's.

Don't go high on the bass? Makes for a boring record but at least it'll be mixed well

Agree with you on many levels, but I feel when you were advising, you were taking 'contrast' as a given. Contrast + bringing it in consistently would be pleasurable for people to listen.
