There’s now a new sleep apnea treatment that doesn't require a mask or a hose. The Inspire implant is a small, pacemaker-like device that keeps the airway open during sleep. Patient Bill Kitchens is now sleeping better, thanks to the device. Watch now, as Bill and Dr. Stanley Chia discuss with @fox5dc how the Inspire device works and who should use it.

I have Inspire and I love it. I've had it for about 4 years now, and it has truly been a lifesaver for me. I encourage anyone who has OSA (Obstructive Sleep Apnea) to research Inspire. I am also willing to chat with any and all people who have OSA about Inspire.

My husband had this implanted. 2 years later he had to have it removed. The wire that ran from the nerve of the back of the tongue to the device popped out of his neck. The wire literally came out of his scar tissue. He hated this device. He was not able to use it and we are so thankful they approved the surgery to remove it instead of repair it. He still had to wear his c pap because it this device did not stop his extreme snoring. The doctor talked him into this surgery and device and he trusted the doctor. He did not research and I was begging him to reconsider this ridiculous surgery and permanent implant. Hard lesson learned. I do not recommend this device. If you snore, you will still snore. It takes months to get used to it, and most people can't get used to it, so it's a huge regret and waste of time.

There are different causes for sleep apnea. Obviously not for central sleep apnea, but for obstructive sleep apnea. For obstructive sleep apnea, it's not always the tongue. How do you screen people to know it's the tongue specifically, and not the Uvula, pallete, jaw or otherwise. If it doesn't work, do you have to pay for removal? What is the success rate so far? Also, I am going to assume that stimulating the tongue to move forward doesn't interupt the sleep state. So it doesn't interupt REM cycles.

It is to new for me to try it. I think I will wait. My doctor wants me to get one, and I may, but I want to see how well it does for a year or so

Dr. Stanley Chia just performed a surgery on my nose, Turbinectomy Bilateral Septoplasty, Bilateral inferior Turbunate Reduction Obstruction, on October 23, 2023. Once they removed the stent a week after I felt I could breath much better and for the first time in a long time. I slept without the CPAP or the Inspire and no snoring as well. Dr. Stanley told me it will not cure my OSA but will help me to breath better. Is sure helping me breath better. I want to thank to all the hospital employees from the hospital entrance to nurses and Doctors.
Best all to Dr. Stanley a big Thank You!

Can you still lead an active life (running, etc...) after the inspire implant?

I’m looking at getting this procedure done soon. I have tried several different mask and too often my seal is breaking causing it to blow harder air and my wife is a light sleeper. It’s so frustrating not to be able to hold her at night because I’ve got this six foot hose attached to my face. My only major question I didn’t ask my doctor is, will I have to get it removed if I have an MRI done.

I just went for the operation and never had a problem going on more than 30 years

It’s ridiculous they know this works but still rather have you all connected to a machine and apparatus.

Crazy. I'd never get an implant for this.

I’ve tried but could not tolerate the CPAP mask. This is my next option. We’re just waiting for the insurance to approve it.
