Sam was trying to get Mercedes to cheat with him. He didn’t respect any boundaries. He didn’t listen when she told him to back off. Some of y’all might think that’s cute, but I think that’s annoying and disrespectful. He pulled a Finn and a Puck. Like he knew what it was like to get cheated on but he did the same to a guy he didn’t even know.

I found Mercedes dating life weird. She so badly wanted love in season 2, then she found sam and he found her and we never got to see the chemistry on set, so maybe that's why they broke them up? (with the excuse of sam suddenly changing schools) and then she got with sean, who did nothing for the plot. Didn't she have time during all this to know what love feels like? I know she is all "god is the only man for me" type of grl but she is only 17 years old for *** sake. This is soooo dramatic. DAmnit, just date one of the guys. Why do you guys think the writers did this, twice! it was also unfair to sam's character I think. He was one of the only guys in the show who really deserved to have a committed gf. He did nothing wrong ever and he is a HUNK, so it's double weird.

In this scene, Sam goes to Mercedes, taps her shoulder and she sees him.
Then he holds up a red heart gift box and says, "I know it's early,
Mercedes receives the box and opens it as he says, "it's a statue of St. Valentine.
Or, I changed one of the statue of the three wise men and repainted it to look like St-"
Mercedes says to Sam, "I told Shane about us."
"Wow." Sam says. "Was he mad?"
"He was sad." Mercedes says. "He cried and said it felt like I punched him in his heart."
Sam goes, "I saw this movie where the main guy got punched in the heart once, he died for like, a minute. It sucks.
At least it means we can be together for real now."
He goes to kiss her, but Mercedes holds him back and says, "no.
What we I did to Shane was wrong.
I lied, I cheated, and it makes me feel awful.
And I love you, but being with you just reminds me of that, and I'm not the person that I thought I was."
"We would never do that to each other." Sam says to her.
"I thought I'd never do that to Shane." Mercedes says as she gets emotional.
"But I have to face the truth.
When it comes to love, I don't know who I am.
And until I find out, I can't be with anyone.
I can't be with you. "
She goes to give Sam the gift back, but he walks away from her.
As he leaves, she watches him while he looks back at her, while she looks all sad and hurt.
