A new sleeper train service has set off from Berlin to Paris, for the first time in almost a decade. Germany and France's transport ministers were there to see off the maiden voyage. The service is a collaboration between the two countries' national train operators as well as Austria's. Night trains have been experiencing a revival recently as an environmentally friendly alternative to air travel.

this is so necessary. I remember the time I lived in Berlin and worked in Munich. Every train that was driving during the night had a sleep department. I never understood why they canceld this service.

There's also a cathartic quality to trains that you can't get from any other transportation. Definitely the most relaxing form of transportation. You can't beat conventional trains, they are a treasure of our society

Europe needs a modern train line(s) from east to west and south to nord. a modern grid for transportations of goods and people.

Thank you Austria for connecting Berlin and Paris, which DB would never do.

The FREEDOM to get up and walk around whenever you please is a HUGE plus.
I’ve lived in Japan🇯🇵 where trains are reliably on time and clean train🚅so they can certainly help Europe in a few areas. The FUN and comfort of the many train journeys I’ve enjoyed in Europe, plus the joy of meeting others OR just having more space than in a flying sardine can is FANTASTIC

i took that train from Berlin to Paris. Shockingly that was over a decade ago. I had a private room with bath.

The lower carbon footprint is a welcome thing off course, but I love the idea of not having to travel outside the city to an airport, go through all the hassles at the airport, be uncomfortable during the journey in air, some more hassle at the destination airport, (occasionally additional fun with the missing baggage & what not) then travel back into the destination city - all usually while losing a working day or worse, a holiday. Pay more price for it all then perhaps end up paying extra for the hotel stay additionally.

I would rather just go sit on a much more comfortable seat, eat something at leisure, go to sleep in a smaller but decent bed and be at the center of destination city next morning.

There seems to be a lot of people on here who have completely missed the point of a night train.

Hours in airports not only sucks but gets expensive. Less pain on a train.

Now it just has to be on time and be clean

So 15 hour to travel 900 km that's an average of 60km/h, Germany has ICE trains and France has TGV trains, both of which can travel at 300 km/h, which might be more expensive but surely they could average at least 120 km/h without it costing too much.

It would be cool if we would be able to replace our short distance flights with night trains trips.
