Ichibei is the embodiment of Soul Society's history, someone who was around when the ancestors committed their sin and has been carrying out their will ever since. His power and skills are utterly strong accordingly. Yamamoto is formidable but his age and narrow vision did not doing him favors. He failed to realize he wasn't fighting Yhwach until it was too late and with his death, Soul Society entered a new era started in blood, ending with reform.

Ichibe had been around since before the original sin. Not only did he survive the tumultuous chaos of the world before, it is also likely he participated in the dismemberment of Reio. Even if Reio was willing, it would still have required a ton of reiatsu to do. Plus the fact he lived lifetimes greater than Yamamoto. In addition, Ichibes power is more conceptual rather than raw power. He likely wouldnt need to get too close to be effective and revoke Yamamoto's power. Even at Yamamoto's prime he probably wouldnt win this.

Yhwach kinda used the almighty remember when he said we can't defeat Shinigamis we need an army he said that while his eyes opened he saw the future and admitted that he can't defeat Shinigamis

Given the quincy song that spoke of his return he had to have the almighty or Jugram had it during the fight since it was night while Yhwach had the balance. However that's weird as well given that the balance is better for fighting but maybe Yhwach couldn't wield it as well as Jugram.
