There's never been a worse time to buy an Oculus Quest 2...

Recently, my partner and I met up with some friends to enjoy a summer barbeque – making the most of the good weather while we could. But, as is often the case in the UK, it wasn’t long before the sun hid behind the clouds and our outdoor party was rained off.

Looking for a way to keep everyone entertained, our host pulled out their parents' Oculus Quest 2 and we took turns to crush Beat Saber tracks and earn high scores in Resident Evil 4 VR’s The Mercenaries mode. The people who didn't regularly use VR seemed impressed with what the headset could do and were keen to pick up one for themselves.

Knowing that I regularly write about and use this kind of tech, a couple of them reached out to me to ask about the best VR headsets to go for – with a particular interest in the Quest 2 they had enjoyed using at the barbeque.

quest 2 is still the best buy. PSVR 2 is cabled. Cambria costs 1200 dollars. PiCO has not the Oculus store and it’s support and exclusives. Just a sad click bait video. Not very professional

I follow your articles regularly and I don't know why you like so much to exploit negativity. Is it really the worst time to buy a Quest 2? Pico's upcoming headset may be cheaper but the games library is a lot less compelling. The Quest Pro isn't for the regular user and the Quest 3 is likely to be released a long time from now. My comment may age badly but the way inflation is going, I don't think we'll see big discounts on the Quest 2. It is an excellent headset with an affordable price tag, certainly the best electronic gadget I bought in some 15 years

Now it's the worst time to buy one. There have been better times. But if you don't have one, it is still a good buy. It is still a great value for the hardware that is in it. So worst time, but not a bad time.

Except a mainstream Quest replacement isn't coming for literally an another entire year! (Quest 3 = October 2023; this year's Quest Pro will be >=$1000). So if you want to get into VR right now, the Quest 2, even at $400, is STILL the ONLY SENSIBLE CHOICE!

Aka, "the time to buy" isn't going to get any better for over a YEAR, and plenty of people just aren't willing to wait THAT freaking long if that's what you're ACTUALLY suggesting they do... 😑

Also, there's been multiple "sales" back to the original price since the price bump. 🤷‍♂️ It's really not that hard to find a 128GB unit new for $300 if you just wait a bit and actually try.

I love my oculus quest 2 pro. I've had it for some time it's one of the best investments I've made and I still highly recommend it for those who want to get into VR.

Not sure if this is connected but I have seen a lot of Quest 2 units in the last month at auctions, I buy and sell and have never seen any before and now 10 or so come up at multiple auctions this month in my area !

At $400-$500 the Quest II will never be worth it with how horrendous the quality and game library is. It makes the original PlayStation VR look and feel like 1, 000% better.
