HKS BLOW OFF VALVE SOUND TEST | MK7 GTI

Today on Grizzly Gearhead we finally get to hear the HKS Blow off valve in its current state. Although proper vacuum still needs to be run through a boost tap, it still sounds bad ass. Nothing like some old fashion turbo flutter.

3:33 to 3:39 is the BOV sound. Anything before and after has nothing to do with the HKS BOV.

You're BOV is NOT working properly. I'd be willing to bet it's not even working at all. That sound you hear is compressor surge and happens when your BOV is stuck closed or not nearly opening enough. HKS BOVs make a high pitch whistle and what your setup is doing is potentially damaging your turbo as the compressed air has nowhere to go. Get yourself a proper boost tap and you'll see what I'm talking about. I've had HKS BOVs in a few different cars and they all sound pretty similar and nothing like the surge your getting.

aren't blow off valves bad for the map sensor for the recirculating air isn't it a diverter valve that you need ?

Why is there a bit stututu if you have a blow off valve? The sense of the blow off valve is to reduce this stutututu as it is bad for the turbo charger. If you go away from the throttle the turbo still produces pressure, but this pressure can't be use as you don't put on the throttle. The overpressure goes back to the turbo and tries to flee and thats why the stutututu can be heard. A blow off valve is there to let the overpressure out, so the turbo can't get any damage
