Five-Headed Dragon's Really Weird Original Text

preview_player
Показать описание
The Five-Headed Dragon originally had the text, where its effect described how it could be fusion summoned, instead of just listing its materials as 5 Dragon-Type monsters. This is mainly because before this point, nearly all fusion monsters has specific monsters as their materials, and this one could use any 5 dragons. But that's not the weird thing about its effect. It goes on to say, that this card does not take any Battle Damage and cannot be destroyed by battle with an EARTH, WATER, FIRE, WIND, or DARK monster.

I think it's important to specify a *5000 attack monster* can't take battle damage. You never know when your opponent might whip out a Power Bond Cyber End Dragon right

"Haha, my Five Headed Dragon doesn't take battle damage from this attack!"

"But YOU still take damage!"

Five-Headed Dragon just really wanted to be in Arc-V so felt the compulsive need to remind you that you still take the damage.

I think it's funny that its not only said that the monster don't receive the damage but that all damage is still inflicted to the player.

It's funny cause back in the day no one was confused by these cards

I wish this card got an updated version to make it unaffected by card effects along with the elemental protection too. Thatd be a crazy boss monster

Had a judge on Dueling Book sided with my opponent last night, that Hallowed Life Barrier did NOT stop monsters being destroyed by battle, and cost me a match 🙃

It COULD have been a reference to the old Gameboy Game where your monster's attack points WERE it's health points

It's ability not to take damage sounds like something straight out of MTG. And given that Tiamat - the inspiration for FHD is now in MTG, we just entered Flavortown

I think that’s all from how the manga used to word it. They used to talk about monsters taking damage, and not just players.

Has Yu-Gi-Oh ever worked in a way where monsters took damage like in mtg and hearthstone games and thus could be worn down by multiple attacks?

I have a copy of this card with original text and all. It’s lovely even to this day 😊

this battle damage bit is important for this as it prevents continual ramming for damage. Like a powe bonded ultimate ancient gear golem or something, it prevents you getting damaged by the monster that can’t kill it

How is it a nothingburger? It can't take damage off those types, so if they summon a 5500 attack monster for example and attack you you won't take damage. In modern Yu-Gi-Oh I've seen cards shoot to like 10k+ attack. Plus this also means if your monsters attack gets lowered it still won't take damage. My gate guardian deck for example can set something to 0 attack but if it's immune to water damage it will be fine.
Or piercing damage.

It’s to add an effect to the cannot be destroyed by battle in case opponent uses a card with higher than 5000 atk, or if for some reason it is in defense the and the opponent has an effect that inflicts battle damage to it while it is in defense like e hero blade edge
