They need a predator that goes after lights rather aggressively. This way you can make the swimming klepto actually useful.

Small fact: the "warper 2.0" is a passive creature atracted to elctronics called sea monkeys, most of the people reading this probably know this already, but il continue, they will swim up to the player when they are holding a flashlight, survival knife, scanner, and other tools that take up 1 space in the inventory, you can take it back from their hands though, they also have nests which you can scan for ultra high capacity o2 tank, or break the nest roof and scan stuff that is inside it, theres even more stuff so im not spoiling any more of that, so you can discover those things yourself!
