The Epic 2500 Nm Trans-Mediterranean Sailing Yacht Expedition A.Rochian G. Baras A.Popsa A.Micu

To visually express the extraordinary adventures of the crew that sailed through epic storms for three months, today we have recreated the Rocquette yacht in 3D CAD and integrated video footage of the 3D CAD model with the conversion of the famous Japanese painting "The Great Wave off Kanagawa" by the renowned Hokusai, along with expedition recordings.
Join us on an extraordinary adventure as we embark on a thrilling journey aboard the legendary yacht Rocquette, a wooden gem that was a racing champion, designed and built by Camper and Nicholoson in 1962. This amazing yacht has a rich history and a legacy that spans decades. In this captivating video, we will take you on a 2500 nautical mile, approximately 4630 kilometer, voyage from Imperia, Genoa, to Constanta, in the Black Sea, exploring stunning landscapes and facing captivating challenges along the way.
Meet our skilled crew of four members: Baras George, Micu Alexandru, Popsa Adrian, and Andrei Rochian. These experienced captains and licensed maritime officers bring their expertise to navigate this classic racing yacht, Rocquette. Our journey begins on April 12, 2004, as we set sail towards the Black Sea, departing from Marina Imperia in Italy, ready to face the open waters.
The meticulous design of Rocquette, crafted by Peter Nicholson at Mere House in Hamble, Southampton, showcases its elegance and performance. Built in Gosport, Hants, United Kingdom, by Caper & Nicholson in 1963, this 41.93-foot yacht boasts impressive specifications. With a total length of 41.93 feet, a waterline length of 30.50 feet, a width of 10.85 feet, and a draft of 6.84 feet, Rocquette excels in stability and elegance. The yacht has a displacement of 11.5 tons and is equipped with a reliable 3-cylinder Volvo Marine Diesel engine, serial number 840337K, as its auxiliary power.
Our courageous crew has faced numerous challenges throughout the expedition. Battling frequent force 7-8 storms and gales, we relied on our navigation skills and continuously monitored weather forecasts from various meteorological websites. Day and night, our crew persevered, executing flawless watch rotations to ensure the safe passage of Rocquette.
We sailed to breathtaking destinations, including the Island of Corsica, Nettuno in Italy, Stromboli, Messina, Badolato in the Gulf of Squillace, and the fascinating Island of Ithaca in Greece. We navigated through the Missolonghy Gulf in Patras, paid the required €160 tax to sail through Corinth, and explored the vibrant city of Athens, docking at Marina Zea. Taking shelter from a violent storm on the Island of Kea, we then ventured to Chios and Lesbos, finally reaching Çanakkale and Istanbul/Kadikoy.
The most thrilling moment came when we traversed the Bosphorus, a truly captivating experience that led us into the vast expanse of the Black Sea. Against the currents, Rocquette showcased its power, reaching a maximum speed of 6 knots. On May 18, after enduring the challenges of the sea, we safely arrived at the yacht harbor in Constanta, Romania, marking the successful completion of our sea journey.
To conclude our adventure, we embarked on a captivating Danube River cruise. Sailing against the current, Rocquette demonstrated its resilience, cruising at a maximum speed of 6 knots. On May 28, we reached the Oltenitza river port, approximately 60 km from Bucharest, where Rocquette will undergo extensive reconstruction. Our journey concluded on June 5, when we arrived at our yacht and boat construction shipyard in Bucharest, ready to restore this magnificent vessel to its former glory.
Join us on this joyous and exciting journey as we share the triumphs and challenges we faced aboard Rocquette. You will admire breathtaking landscapes, feel the adrenaline of sailing through storms, and experience the joy of reaching our destinations.
