Jonathan Majors *perseverance* is actually...dangerous.

When Jonathan Majors was first given his Perseverance award, I had A LOT of thoughts. But the biggest one is something that NO ONE is talking about when it comes to his rise, fall, and weirdly positioned comeback with the likes of Meagan Good and Coretta Scott King. So..let's talk about how dangerous this actually is.

Maybe it’s because I’m suffering from fatigue of the media, but I stopped paying attention to Johnathan Majors along time ago. After he said he wanted a woman like Coretta Scott King or whatever he said, I had him flushed out of my mental rolodex. Maintaining my sanity for the rest of this year.

I disagree that this isn't perseverance. Jonathan Majors was persecuted by police officers who fabricated charges, an ex-girlfriend who changed her story after seeing the evidence, and a DA's office hungry for convictions against high-profile black men.

The jury didn't believe Galaway and Perez's theory that Majors was abusive. They acquitted him of charges relating to intent. They were not instructed on justification, which is a reversible error in NY. Judge Gaffey even encouraged an appeal on this issue. The prosecution didn't seek jail time at sentencing.

There's also a problem in access to this trial. What was widely available came from a select few journalists, most of whom weren't in court for the full trial. People are fixed on a recording and a set of texts that start with "It's just fake" and end with an implication that Grace Jabbari broke a personal belonging, but that's not what made the buzz online.

Grace Jabbari testified she started the physical fight. Then, she chased him for 5 blocks and attacked him again a second time. She testified she struck him during that 2nd time with the same hand that had the finger injury. Though the judge wouldn't allow bodycam audio, she was questioned about telling the police her finger injury happened during that second incident. The only other witness in the car - the Driver - said she was doing everything and that he was trying to get away.

Grace Jabbari also testified she fell unconscious on the bathroom floor (this was after asking Jonathan to respond to her texts and calls - he wasn't home) and didn't hear Jonathan arriving home that morning. This can't be true, because she was texting her friend simultaneously. However, this scene is what gave rise to the initial and untrue story that Jonathan Majors strangled Grace Jabbari.

The jury wasn't allowed to see photos of Jonathan Majors injuries. Questions about Grace Jabbari's i-cards, arrest, and unusual DAT were objected to and sustained, so the jury wasn't allowed to hear the full details of two different precincts finding probable cause to arrest her for domestic assault and criminal mischief. The prosecution cut a deal with Grace Jabbari - they promised her no legal repercussions whatsoever (before looking into what NYPD detectives found, which means this isn't simply a matter of prosecutorial discretion), and she agreed to cooperate in testifying against Jonathan Majors. This is brady material and wasn't disclosed to the defense in a timely manner, either.

This case is a great example of why we need transparency in courts. Your thoughts are powerful, but the subject matter is different than it appears.

This was a beautiful essay and I love hearing your thoughts on different subject matters.
This was spot on in regards to the biblical example and how we as a people need to not only take accountability but stop enabling bad decisions and behaviors.
Learning to say and speak the truth even if it hurts the other person's feelings.
Well sometimes the truth hurts but this will help you look at yourself and work on your flaws.

SIDE NOTE:
My husband went to school with Majors (elementary or middle, i can't recall), anyways he told me he was weird then and weird now. He also told me he fought/hit a girl. So Meagan and whomever please be careful.

"An error in judgment" is absolutely the best way to sum this series of events up. Giving Majors awards for anything in the midst of this is an absolute disgrace in my opinion. They all look ridiculous.

“ We prop up victimhood instead of enticing people towards wholeness”…ma’am that was a whole word 👏🏾

On a side note, that court illustrator was straight up trolling. 😂

I guess my question is how is him not going away any different than Chris Brown. Dude on tour taking sus pics with the very population whom he has harmed.

Jonathan Majors didn't commit domestic violence. The fact that she ran after him, stole his phone from his hand (robbery), ran out into traffic after him, and avoided court appearance from the beginning to the point that there was a warrant for HER ARREST is proof that she is the criminal. Any and all arguments between them is exactly that: an argument. Nobody wants a trashy drunk woman in their house. Yelling at a woman is NOT domestic violence. The vast majority of women are NOT damsel in distress victims. The situations that arose from women having no work history, all male bosses, the experiment of women in the work place is long past. Your situation is nowhere near what women had to go through in the great depression era. So quit this woman worship crud. Jonathan Majors is a victim of man-hating and racism. Plain and simple.

I pray for Meagan ❤ Her admitting that she lives in a “bubble” with Jonathan and barely goes outside unless she absolutely must is a sign of isolation. The pattern is repeating itself.

This might be a long comment, but please bear with me. 😅🙏🏽

As a fellow believer, my heart felt the heavy impact of this video & your refreshing perspective on the Jonathan Majors situation. I couldn’t help but see some similarities in my own life, specifically around the idea that certain setbacks in our lives can expose some of the areas of brokenness & fallibility we carry within.

For Majors, this feels like it. He’s experiencing a huge setback, but one that is small enough that he can still make a comeback & have a successful career… but I get the feeling that is only possible if he addresses his internal issues & hopefully now that he’s with Meagan, surrenders to God.

Also, just as a real-life testimony to whoever will receive it? I’m going through a similar thing; a career & financial setback where it feels like nothing is working. But when everything fails, I notice that I get more time to see the self-destructive patterns I engage in; how my inclination to ‘hard work’ is really an insecurity towards the truth that GOD PROVIDES, and that (compared to Coretta) my endurance is short and conditional. 🤷🏽‍♂️

When everything fails, I get to lean the One who doesn’t fail, and this is by no means an easy habit to built, neither is it without a lot of pain, but it’s a necessary path to healing & growth - Majors aside, we all need some of this.

Thank you for another impactful video, Tiffany! ❤

Question….

Isn’t it a contradiction to say that you trust God & march to the beat of your own drum?

Echoing others…what has been going on with this actor has not been on my mind…as my colleagues would say “running low on bandwidth, ” but I feel for those feeling traumatized or retraumatized right now. Reminds me of a simple statement: nice is not the same thing as kind.

You’re opinion lacks sound reasoning for his case or understanding of situations like this. You’re discrediting the value of trust in your partner and it appears this video only provides a simple solution to a complex situation. Thus, no tangible takeaway here.

Perhaps it is because you have no experience with a meaningful connection with a romantic partner. Either way you definitely missed the mark on this video topic in my opinion.

Anybody that’s been in a scenario where a woman wants to see your phone and is starting to get physical with you over it understands the dilemma Jonathan was in that night . Why should accountability be expected when he didn’t start our pursue conflict she did . Literally pursued him for more conflict and started a 2nd fight once they got in the vehicle again . I understand alcohol was involved and emotions where high so I’m not really judging either of them but I think people should take their holier than thou glasses off and look at the details and facts of what happened that night from a real world perspective

I like the direction this piece took. A rather thoughtful, unique approach was taken... And yes, the perseverance award was laughable to me.

He did all of that to himself and no one is holding him accountable to him to many people telling the same thing about him
