The song was inspired by Ken Russell's film Song of Summer, made for the BBC's programme Omnibus, which Kate had watched when she was ten years old. In his twenties, Delius contracted syphilis. When he became wheelchair bound as he became older, a young English admirer Eric Fenby volunteered his services as unpaid amanuensis. Between 1928 and 1933 he took down his compositions from dictation, and helping him revise earlier works. The song was released on the album Never For Ever and as the B-side of the single Army Dreamers.

Only Kate Bush could write a song about a composer with syphilis and make it this beautiful...
or about a psychiatrist and philosopher who makes rain...
or about a ghost from a gothic novel.
She is an artist in every sense of the word...thanks for uploading the HD version!

This one by Kate is tops in 'ethereal' and 'mesmerizing'. She just flows like water. Thank you, England, for your gift of awesomeness. Got to add this one to the ever-increasing playlist.

In which Kate reveals her true form: an otherworldly siren-sprite born to enchant the world with her gifts. ❤

Never Forever was her first album where she slipped out of "band of guys doing all of the backing tracks" mode and slipped into Kate brilliantly utilizing the recording studio as her instrument mode and this track is one of the seminal tracks where Kate's experimental side came more to the forefront. It's so far from the drums, bass, guitar and keyboards arrangements that were much more predominant in the first two albums although she was showing flashes of this even on Lionheart.

Kate as a beautiful Swan with Delius' face as the Sun was brilliant. Kate's videos were mostly done on a small budget but my gosh was she creative on how she spent that budget! Compare this to most of the videos that actually were on MTV in the same era and her videos are conceptually just on a whole different level utilizing literature, classical art works, drama, just such a more sophisticated language than say a Duran Duran or Berlin video of the same era. I would be surprised if this video or really most of her videos were ever on MTV until Hounds of Love. I can't recall ever seeing them in the early 80s on MTV and being in America, this country sadly ignored Kate, even after her brilliant SNL appearance.

A video when they were still called "promotional videos", and it surpasses most of everything that came after. And it was almost ALL one take. Her artistry is timeless.

This video is so dreamy, and she's so beautiful and ethereal that I'm literally in awe. This song is so underrated, I only wish it was longer!

Thank you for cutting out the cringeworthy bits where Doctor Hook and his mates refer to the song as 'Delicious" and salivate over Kate. She looks so uncomfortable when she's sat in between these big pervy oafs and you can't blame her.

I don't think Kate has ever looked as gorgeous (and it's a tough choice) as she did in this video.
