How long should sweet potatoes be in the ground. Here in Central Florida. My vines have suddenly started going crazy and some blooms have come and gone. Dug one out a few days ago about the size of my hand. I don't want to go too early, but I don't want bugs to get them either. They went in late May I think.

😮 i wish! Damn voles get all mine, thank god for true yams and cassava. I still use sweet potato as a ground cover and eat the leaves and feed leaves to chickens but i rarely get the tubers.

They are barely covered in dirt! Or just put slips in a little dirt then cover with straw? Do you add more straw as they grow vines?

I have orangey white sweet potato volunteers in the mulch drop. Could they be a cross? Also, can I transplant the vines now (central fl 9b), am due for another mulch drop.

@davidthegood Will the current vine go dormant at frost and be usable next spring when its time to go all sweet potato happy?
