Wind Cave National Park is home to the seventh longest cave in the world! Swaying prairie grasses, forested hillsides, and an array of wildlife such as bison, elk, and prairie dogs welcome visitors to one of our country's oldest national parks and one of its few remaining intact prairies.

Not far from Mount Rushmore, over a million people visit this national park annually. Wind Cave is the first cave to be designated as a national park. It's a driving park.

For anyone visiting the black hills, wind cave national park provides by far the best area to spot elk, especially at dusk on the dirt service roads. We spotted probably 15 large bull elk and countless cows in about 45 minutes of driving.

Unfortunately you cannot get into the cave at this point as the elevator is out of order. We had stopped there 5/18/24 and found this out. The drive around area is still a treat with all the local animals

I want to know what the Lakota named this cave, not the colonizers.
