Coming back to this video to say that this has saved me enormous amounts of money over the past year when ordering parts for my eboard. There was no lineup at the CBSA office and they were super helpful & kind every time.

This video just saved me. I purchased a CD from Japan and used DHL as the courier, they charged me additional $25 CAD for the import/taxes and I decided to try the self-clearance. DHL has a page for self-clerance and they responded within 24 hours, provided me all the documents I need to submit at the CBSA. DHL informed me that I need to self-clear my shipment within 48hours. Went to CBSA in Vancouver and I just paid $3.33 CAD for my $27.78 CAD item, there was no line when I got there and it was a quick transaction. Took a picture of the document from CBSA and sent it to DHL then they got back to me within a couple of hours telling me that they will deliver my shipment.

Thanks a bunch!

Bought a backpack from California at around 225$. I already regret buying it for that amount of price. And on top of that, UPS charges me 70$ in fees. Glad I came through your video. Next time, I'll make sure to not eat those fees thanks to you

Great video. This week I had a delivery coming in from the UK. DHL wanted to charge me the tax and a $17 brokerage fee. On top of that they also wanted to charge me $56 because there was more than 5 lines in the invoice. In total they wanted $141, after searching the web I found out I could self clear. I’m also in Canada and have done the same process as this video describes. Super easy to do and my $141 DHL charge turned into $24 clearing the package myself, CBSA where super helpful and told me to spread the word about this process. We are basically being held to ransom by these courier companies because people are not aware that they can self clear.

Thank you so much for your video, it's super helpful, I just sent back (contacted the company in the USA and asked for a refund) a package that cost 120$CAD (I had to pay 21.99 for the shipping) and DHL was asking 79$ from me so I could get my package. It's crazy!

This is super helpful man, the way these companies scam customers is awful

I just have to say, DHL is the absolute worst company when it comes to brokerage fees and transparency about it, UPS is the overall worst company in terms of service

Thanks for sharing this information.

It is crazy that we are ripped off this way. The federal government should take action on this.

Hello,
Need some inputs on a situation

My brother sent me a parcel which contains laptop, watch (are used), only ear pods are brand new, shipped from USA and got a customs estimate around $290 from UPS.

Is there a way I could negotiate it with CBSA directly since those items are not brand new and I am an international student.I live in Kitchener and which CBSA office would be opt for me to reach out?

Thanks in advance

This was fantastic. I just ordered some samples from China- $25 and paid $25 to dhl. I was floored as was my supplier. I plan on ordering 3-500 at a time, so you’ve saved me $$$$
