Every assamese grows up listening stories about the bravery of lachit barphukan.

Actually it is taught only in Assam schools. In Assam's school nearly half of its history books is about Ahom dynasty, their culture, wars, artitecture, religion, the great kings, etc.

We had an entire subject in our school called assam history in 8th standard where we learnt about assam's history and about ahoms. I feel lucky that i was in that batch of 2015. Got to learn a lot about ahoms, bodos, kacharis and other indigeneous kindoms and tribes of assam from an assamese author, without any colonial influence. However its sad that the subject isnt taught anymore.
