Stay With Me - Faces - Bass Cover - Request

Hello :)

This is the requested transcription I've done of the Faces song "Stay With Me" from their 1971 album "A Nod Is As Good As a Wink... to a Blind Horse." The bass player on this track was Ronnie Lane.

You can find this transcription at Muzento when you sign up with an Advanced Lesson Plan.

This is another one of those songs where I've heard it before, but hadn't really listened to before. Wow, what a groove! I've transcribed some Ronnie Lane bass lines before, but I have a whole new level of respect and appreciation for him after working on this one. Wow...what a cool bass line he came up with :)

I found I had to lay back and pay attention to articulations in order to match the recording.

There are lots of little variations he puts in, and I'm sure it was a little different every time he played it.

Ronnie Lane is another candidate for under appreciated bass players!

I hope you enjoy this one as much as I did. :)

Don't forget to "like" and "subscribe" and thanks for watching.

Hey Greg. What can I say? You exceeded my expectations with this one! The timing and rhythm are impeccable. Playing it with a pick took it to another level.

Wow, is this one ever difficult... I like how he accents the "a" of beat 2 during the verses, really pushes the groove forward... great cover and thanks for the tab!

Hi Greg,
This is a great song. With a lot of bass intricacies that I was not aware. Great playing and transcription. This is one of my favorites.
Thanks for doing it.

Great song choice! The odd choices he makes at 2:19 have always sounded cool to me.

Like you, I use my fingers, a pick, my thumb, my toes, my nose ... whatever the song calls for (and usually what the recording bassist used). Yes, Ronnie's under appreciated. Your articulation is stellar here and more than that I'm really diggin' the tone. Sounds like a bit of reverb on it. What did you have you p/u controls set at?

Awesome job! Thanks for posting. If you take requests, can you do Gordon Lightfoot’s “Rainy Day People”?
