I have that tuner. It didn't take too long before the internal battery had fallen to 64% after a full charge cycle, and no it wasn't habitually left on overcharge. A better solution is to relocate a replacement battery externally after prying the flimsy one from the inside. It'll still be compact but easier to cope with in the future.

Quick question... the 3.5.4 Stop automatic tuning standing wave ( TUNE STOPSWR )
menu option allows you to set the stop tune VSWR to a value and the default is 1.10. If that is what it's set to, I'm wondering why your tuning stopped at around 1.7? I would have thought that if it needs to get to 1.10 to stop tuning, then if it wasn't able to reach that value, the tuning would fail and there should be some indication of that fact.

That's a pretty neat little ATU. I wish they would have put BNC's on the back instead of the big SO 239's.

Don’t use FM on the HF bands below 10m it’s likely that this doesn’t comply with your bandwidth regulations. You can use AM but PKT on your 817 and RTTY on your 705 will give you full power carrier as would CW if you have a key plugged in.
