I've met his attorney before, who is actually a great person to visit with. And unlike Durst, he knows how to turn his mic off.

A brief comparison with German Law:

Drust would be found guilty of murder under specific aggravating circumstances in Germany. According to § 211 II a murderer “is someone who kills a person […] to […] cover up another offense”. Durst killed Ms Berman because she wanted to talk to the police about the first murder and therefore tried to cover up his first murder.
In Germany being found guilty of a murder automatically translates to a life sentence for the offender.

Durst recently died (January 2022) so he weasled out of these consequences too.

Took six years for this to happen. Incredible. And he was acquitted of murder despite admitting to disposing of the body. What in the hell?
