Haha just started finger knitting(have yet to get needles) and the Bobby pin trick just came to m! I need alot of needles!!

Newbie question: When we weave in our loose ends with the needle...are we supposed to split our way thru those mesh of yarns we're locking in our loose end? I've been kind of doing that on this first project. (granny stitch blanket) Or are we supposed to avoid 'splitting' altogether. I just figured it would be a tighter lock for potential unraveling? Have i been doing this wrong? 😬!
