Can the S-400 Defeat the F-35?

The S-400 could hit the F-35 if detected, but the F-35's stealth and targeting allow it to strike first, making a successful hit unlikely unless the pilot errs.

The problem isn't detecting it, it's locking it, and all of this assumes that there's no ews jamming going on

hmmm an eagle flying at mach 1 seems to be normal

Stealth is not invisibility, resolution or targeting issue. It's a signature issue, hence RCS. The is a reason why modern IADS like Patriot or S400 have mutliband radars that scan surroundings in different spectrums.

The problem is that other systems cannot do that due to having a single radar like Tunguska, Tor, Shilka, Buk, etc. And these are the majority of the systems.

In the same way that F35 will never work alone so do the S400s.
Integerated air defences add up a lot.
A full S400 battalion with it's accompanying systems like the SA-11 and the SA-19 and the airborne elements like the sukhoi 35s can intercept a lot of missiles.
The question isn't whether the S400 can get lock on f35. It's about if it and it's escorts can shoot down everything the f35s have shot at it.

The short answer is yes but the odds are so astronomically low you'd have the same luck chucking a rock at it.

The issue isn’t detection, it’s getting a quality lock before the adversary can use stand-off munitions. That’s what stealth is meant to do - delay detection so the pilot can use stand-off munitions. Detection can occur with K Band Radar, but you need at least I or X band to get a quality lock.

Yall do realize this is true right? And doesn’t really have an American bias towards it, he’s running down the basics of stealth aircraft, and he’s mostly got it down, yeah stealth doesn’t mean invisible, it means harder to track and lock, as well as even get a ping on in the first place, the F-35 while having a very exposed engine, if it’s attacking the air defense target head on, there’s a very low chance of it getting locked, and either way it still has some heat dispersion technology’s to it, the only time the F-35 would get locked by it would be if it’s bottom bay doors opened, which would increase its radar cross section to a normal aircraft, it would probably have to fire a missile, close the doors, and probably try defensive maneuvers to avoid getting shot down, or as long as they do it quick enough to avoid getting locked in the first place, also don’t bring up the F-117, it was a huge success and only got 1 out of the hundreds that were manufactured, got shot down, and it was only because of the bomb bay doors being open so it could get locked and shot, horrible excuse to use for an argument. Know you’re facts about aircraft’s despite your bias towards a country, then we can talk

turkey already confirmed that their S400 systems are able to detect both the 22 and 35 at around 200-170km far

Modern radars are good enough to even find and track stealth aircraft on longer ranges.

In a vacuum you have a point. But if an F-35 is taking on an S-400 it’s on Russian home turf.

So it’s not going to be in a vacuum.

It all depends on the radar wave length
For such a large radar with large wave length. F35 is still detectable

Flying around with your radar on is like hunting an enemy at night in a dense jungle with your torch light on. Without radar/torchlight, F-35 is just an ordinary aircraft

I love this unbised with zero propaganda and its also true

But if the s-400 track the heat anomaly of the f-35 or its refractions I'm sure it would stand a better chance

The radar operator would be like why is this birdie flying at mach 1.5?

The small radar cross section means the background is so full of stuff, birds, dust devils, etc. At any range the radiating system is visible at a much longer range. Next Gen antiradiation missiles would be littering and stealthy and would be launched way before the manned plane is in range.

An S-400 will never take down a F-35 because it will never be there to fire at one.

The US battle plan is, during the first stage of a war, use Stealth bombers (B-2s and B-21s) escorted by F-22s to take out enemy AA capability and airfields. After that, when air superiority has been achieved, you send in the F-35, which can coordinate with ground vehicles and other Gen 4 fighters to eliminate ground targets. The S-400 won't deal with the F-35, which even has exterior hard points. It will have to deal with the stealth bombers, flying with the cross-section of a bee, and the much faster, much stealthier F-22.

The thing about a radar array is that it’s an array meaning it’s more than 1.Russia has a lot of ground base radar systems and they overlap with each other not to mention other aircraft ranging from other jet fighters to one of those Ealy warning aircrafts.
