He was referring to Jackie Robinson when he said baseball players. Jackie Robinson was featured in a 1964 article complaining that Malcolm X and his radical ideas compared to the integrationist movement.

Dick Gregory started using comedy as a means of activism. Muhammad Ali became a Muslim and used his platform to fight racism. Two Black track runners (forgot their names) raised their fists at the 1967 Olympics during the medals ceremony. Those were actions Malcolm initiated. They didn’t stop being athletes or entertainers. They used their platforms for a bigger purpose. Colin Kaepernick is today’s example.
